Carroll County History
Carroll County was organized in 1826 from lands acquired by a treaty signed with the Cherokee and Creek Indian Nations. The signing of the Indian Springs Treaty resulted in the murder of Chief William McIntosh, the son of a Scotsman and a full-blood Creek woman, who owned a vast plantation along the Chattahoochee River in southeast Carroll.

McIntosh Reserve
McIntosh Reserve was developed as parkland by Carroll County to provide for the public enjoyment the site’s natural and cultural resources, while also ensuring their preservation. The park combines recreation activities, preservation of cultural heritage, public education, fish and wildlife management and conservation of the Chattahoochee River Corridor.

The Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park is a unique historical site with a museum, actual mining sites, nature trails and gold panning all at one location. Experience gold mining techniques spanning over 100 years beginning in the 1820s through the early 1930s. We are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
