[ARCHIVED] Partial Eclipse of the Sun over Carroll County

On August 21, 2017 much of the United States, including Carroll County, will experience a solar eclipse.  A path stretching from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina, as depicted on the map, is the path of totality where the moon will completely block out the sun.  This is the first total solar eclipse affecting the entire continental United States since 1918.  Areas north and south of this path will feature a partial eclipse.  In Carroll County, Georgia, the percentage of eclipse will be approximately 95%. The eclipse will occur from approximately 1pm to 4pm with the maximum eclipse occurring around 2:30pm.  usa_eclipse_map_v2_print

It is important to use special glasses to view the eclipse and also to rest your eyes during the event.  One should never stare directly at the sun, especially during an eclipse as there could be permanent damage.
